Merit is the best equipped to provide the desired service......whatever the challenge. You can't do it all, but there are many positive tasks you can do to minimize the cost of your relocation and also avert expensive, time-consuming and unexpected problems.  A little time spent carefully pre-planning your move can pay off handsomely.  The following are lists of some of these factors.

Initial Planning

  • Prepare a detailed inventory of equipment and furniture.

  • Prepare floor plans and layout.

  • Establish a time-table and logistics plan for the move.

  • Determine if employees will do all the packing or if assistance will be needed.

  • Call your Merit Moving Consultant for a pre-move survey, estimate of costs, and move plan.

  • Consider valuation coverage for the items to be moved.

  • Review insurance for property damage, general liability, and workman's compensation.

  • Assign move coordinators to assist with the move plan implementation.

  • Number and color-code blueprints with labels and instructions which will be provided by Merit to all involved in the move.

Communications

  • Coordinate telephone and data line services

  • Consider electrical and service requirements for computers, copiers, and other equipment.

  • Notify customers, vendors and service and utility companies of the new address.

  • Arrange access to and securing of both facilities on moving day.

  • Keep employees informed of plans with memos, bulletins, and other communiqués.

  • Conduct briefing with move coordinators to discuss overall move plan. Assistance in formulating an agenda will be provided by Merit.

Preparation for the Move

  • Dispose of trash and other unwanted material.

  • Instruct employees to take personal items home prior to the move.

  • Tag furniture and boxes with color-coded labels and instructions.

  • Merit will provide padding and protection for equipment and facilities.

The Day of the Move

  • Post blueprints at the work area to assist in directing flow to correct location.

  • Post workstation and office layouts to assist in precise placement of equipment and furniture.

  • Make certain that department or move coordinators are available to direct movers and answer questions.

  • Designate a "lost and found" area for unmarked items.
